{Thoughts} I got a postcard postmarked North Pole!

Hey, who’s Ben?” says Jeremy. My mind races through the list of Bens I knew. Did he just find out about “the” Ben? No… he couldn’t have… Just kidding! I don’t have any history with any Bens… no of course not (yes, Jeremy, I know you read our own blog) πŸ™‚

“You got a postcard from Ben, from North Pole!” Jeremy continues. “Sweet! I was right!” I shrieked while excitedly checking out the slightly cuffed postcard that has endured the long journey from North Pole to Seattle.

In August, Ben held a contest on his blogΒ asking readers to guess his next destination.. He then selected a few people who guessed right to receive a postcard from him. I guessed right! You can follow the rest of his adventures in Alaska through his blog – they’re inspiring!

Thanks Ben for the wonderful gesture!

In the digital world where communication is often done through email, tweets, facebook wall posts, blog comments… actually receiving a postcard or the traditional snail mail from a friend is such a rarity these days.

[bq_left]Send a postcard, greeting card or snail mail to your family or friend on your next travel.[/bq_left] I don’t know how to describe how happy I am each time I uncover a postcard or personal mail in the pile of credit card offers, coupons and other spam.. My heart skips a beat and I always read the postcard, card or mail like I’m a 10-year-old kid tasting her Haloween candy haul! *Savoring* every single detail!

Jeremy and I actually make a habit of sending our families back home a postcard from each destination on our travels. We know our parents appreciate them. We wonder sometimes if our own kids will do the same in the future?

Do you think postcards and snail mail will be around for our great great grand children to enjoy? What about our great great great grandchildren?

I say we should do our part to keep the tradition going. Send a postcard, greeting card or snail mail to your family or friend on your next travel. I firmly believe there are people out there who still appreciates them as we do!

TIP: A great tip from a fellow traveler (Lisa), is to send a postcard to yourself. When you get home, it’ll be in the mail. What a great way to relive the moment!

When was the last time you sent someone a postcard, greeting card or snail mail? Do you enjoy receiving them as much as we do? Do share!

Btw, if people are willing, we should have an activity in our TEBX group to exchange post cards for Christmas! XD

It has been so long since I received or gave a postcard. I almost forgot about it and this is reason enough to feel excited about the idea. It would be really great if many would continue the tradition. I think I will send some to my relatives and friends then hear their thoughts about it.

That…is…awesome! I didn’t know you could get postcards for the North Pole, haha. It makes sense though.

There are very few things more exciting than receiving actual mail. These days it’s all bills or people trying to sell you things. I miss just getting a post card or a letter or (best of all) a package.

i’m a nutcase freak about sending postcards!! I realized what a terrible postcard writer I was when I received one from a friend in Italy – beautifully and poetically written.

wow! I am terrible at writing postcards too! My writing is so messy, I’m surprised my family can even read it πŸ™‚ you’re lucky to receive such beautifully written postcards from your friends! Glad you’re keeping up the tradition! Keep sending those postcards! You’ll be our inspiration πŸ™‚

I love receiving and sending postcards. I try to send a few on every trip. I even send myself one with some of my favorite memories of the trip. That way later when I’m home I can savor those moments again, along with a beautiful view.

    Good post you two.
    A very enjoyable read.
In the days of the 70’s when I traveled it was the only way to communicate!
Ahh – giving away my age again.
    Now it’s instant everything.
    Thanks for the post.
    Cheers,

Glad you enjoyed the postcard and thanks so much for writing about it. It was fun writing them, but I had to write quick as there were several I had to send! It is fun to receive “real mail” every now and then.

    Pay it forward!

We sent quite a few at the beginning of our travels – two batches…but then we got really tired of all the waiting around we had to do in post offices and the high cost so we haven’t sent any in awhile…I agree, though – they are nice and a great way to say hello to people or give them something from the countries you visit instead of a gift.
